The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to Rashtriya Janata Dal president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad for questioning on March 19 in Patna in money laundering case related with land-for-job scam.
Sources in the party also said that Mr. Prasad, 77, has been asked to appear before the investigating agency on March 19 while his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi and elder son Tej Pratap Yadav have been issued summon in the case for questioning with their statements to be recoded under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on March 18.

On January 29 this year, the ED had questioned Mr. Prasad for about 10-hours in the case. His younger son and political heir Tejashwi Yadav who is, currently, Leader of Opposition in state assembly was also questioned by the investigating agency for eight hours.
Earlier on October 4’ 2023 a Delhi based court had granted bail to Mr. Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, their younger son Tejashwi Yadav and others in relation to another chargesheet related with other land-for-job scam case filed by the ten investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Last year in 2024, the ED had filed chargesheet in the case against Mr Prasad, his family members and others before a Delhi court. The charge sheet named his wife Rabri Devi, elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav along with others.
The CBI had earlier on May 18. 2022 had registered case against Mr. Prasad, his wife, son, two daughters and others in land-for-job scam case which said to have happened between 2004-2009 when Mr. Prasad was the union Railway minister. CBI in its chargesheet had named 78 accused persons in the case, including 30 government officials.
It was alleged that Mr. Prasad had distributed Group-D jobs in different zones of railways in lieu of landed property allegedly transferred in the name of his family members and others.
It was also alleged that no advertisement or any public notice was issued for such jobs in different zones of railways in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur.
