The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), utilising Interpol channels, has coordinated the return of two fugitives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who were wanted by police forces in Kerala and Gujarat.

According to a CBI official, the agency’s International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) worked in collaboration with Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abu Dhabi and the respective State police forces to secure the returns.

One of the returned individuals, Suhail Basheer, arrived in India on April 2. Basheer was wanted by the Ernakulam Police in Kerala in connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl. An Interpol Red Notice had been issued against him on December 2, 2024. The CBI official stated that Basheer was located in the UAE following sustained efforts via Interpol. A Kerala Police team escorted him from the UAE, arriving at Cochin International Airport.

In a separate operation coordinated concurrently, Tofik Najir Khan was also returned from the UAE. Khan was wanted by the Gujarat Police in Mehsana district related to a case involving alleged criminal conspiracy, forgery, and cheating, registered at the Bavlu police station. A Red Notice for Khan was issued on February 25, 2025.

Upon arrival at Cochin International Airport, Khan was handed over to a waiting Gujarat Police team, the official confirmed.
