The Congress on Friday (April 4, 2025) launched the Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellows programme, named after the former Prime Minister, inviting mid-career professionals to join politics with an aim to build a modern and progressive India.

Under the fellowship, 50 mid-career professionals will be chosen every year and mentored by senior party leaders from professional backgrounds.

Taking to X, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi shared the link of the All India Professional Congress (AIPC) and urged professionals to apply for the programme.

“It’s time that India’s brightest minds brought their power to politics. The Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellows program is our call to mid-career professionals — step into public life, lead with integrity, and help build a progressive and inclusive India,” Mr. Gandhi said in his post.

Addressing a joint press conference with senior leaders K. Raju and Pawan Khera, AIPC chairperson Praveen Chakravarty said: “The Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellows’ programme will identify and choose 50 mid-career professionals from across the country every year. These 50 people will be chosen by an eminent panel through a very intense selection process.”

“Once they are chosen, they will be mentored by senior leaders in the Congress party who have come from professional backgrounds themselves,” he added.

Mr. Chakravarty said the chosen professionals should have spent a minimum 10 years and attained a certain level of financial security and are passionate about building a progressive India.

In his remarks at the presser, Mr. Raju said Manmohan Singh Fellows will be working with senior professionals who are working in the Congress party or with Congress leaders who have had a professional background to help them in the transition.

“I am glad that I’ll be one of those mentors. We would like to first understand what kind of strengths these professionals possess and what it is that they can contribute to the party. And then we will work on creating an ecosystem for them to grow in politics,” Mr. Raju said.

“That way, through one year of mentoring, we will train them on how to cope with politics and how to deal with the uncertainties of politics. At the same time, they will learn how to stay focused on their goal with our support,” he added.
