Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will host the first Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on delimitation on Saturday (March 22, 2025) in Chennai, with Chief Ministers of Kerala, Telangana, and Punjab: Pinarayi Vijayan, Revanth Reddy, Bhagwant Singh Mann set to take part.
Terming the meeting as a “defining moment”, Mr. Stalin said if Tamil Nadu and other States lose representation due to the upcoming delimitation process, it will strike at the very foundation of federalism in India. Earlier in the month, Mr. Stalin had chaired an all-party meeting, adopting the resolution that Tamil Nadu’s existing 7.18% of the total seats must not be reduced under any circumstances during the delimitation exercise. He had also said that the 1971 population should be the basis for delimitation of Lok Sabha seats for 30 years from 2026 and PM Modi should make an assurance in the Parliament. The JAC is to take forward such demands.
Working president of Shiromani Akali Dal Balwinder Singh Bhunder, and general secretary of Indian Union Muslim League Kerala P M A Salam, were among the leaders who arrived in Chennai to take part in the meeting.
