The field hospital being set up by the Indian Army’s 90 Para Brigade in Mandalay has been successfully operationalised. The 200-bed hospital can provide surgical and in-patient care.
A fifth naval ship INS Gharial, with 440 tonnes of relief material, including rice, edible oil and medicines, sailed out of the Visakhapatnam harbour on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) morning, and is expected to reach Yangon late on April 4 or early on April 5. This is part of India’s support offered under ‘Operation Brahma’ to earthquake-hit Myanmar.

Myo Aung, the Chief Minister of Mandalay, visited the facility and reviewed its capabilities on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) morning, Indian Army officials said.
“As part of the Indian Army’s ongoing humanitarian assistance under Operation Brahma, the Field Hospital, comprising 118 personnel, has been successfully established in Mandalay. The hospital was deployed using two Indian Air Force C-17 heavy-lift aircraft, and is now fully operational with a 200-bed capacity offering surgical and in-patient care,” an official said.
The field hospital is fully prepared and equipped to provide critical medical care to those in need, reinforcing India’s steadfast commitment to humanitarian relief efforts in the region, the official added.

INS Satpura and INS Savitri arrived at Yangon on Monday (March 31, 2025) night with approximately 40 tonnes of relief material. Two more ships, INSKarmuk and LCU 52, which sailed from the Andaman and Nicobar Command on March 30 carrying approximately 30 tonnes of relief material, arrived in Yangon on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) morning.
An Indian Air Force C-130, too, landed in Mandalay, with relief material including medicines, water, and generators.
