Iqbal Singh Lalpura, chairman of National Commission for Minorities (NCM), on Friday wrote a letter to the concerned State governments, urging them to take immediate steps to preserve and promote the Gurmukhi, the language of the Sikh community. He also called for preserving of the history and cultural heritage of the community.
Sikh Development Board
In the letter, Mr. Lalpura highlighted the need for the establishment of a Sikh Development Board within each State to facilitate the integration of Sikh interests and upliftment of the community. He further requested the governments to appoint Gurmukhi teachers and ensure better representation of the community in key institutions.
Additionally, he stressed on the importance of preserving the traditional businesses of the Sikh community while modernising them to ensure economic growth and better job opportunities. He also called for the inclusion of Sikh culture, traditions, and contributions in the broader socio-economic policies of the States.
