BJP president and Union Minister J.P. Nadda has called all Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States, along with the party’s State unit presidents and organisational general secretaries, to New Delhi for a meeting on April 10, amid the continuing wait for the election of his successor.
Sources in the BJP did not clarify the agenda behind the summoning of these leaders, but the process of completing organisational elections within the party, culminating in the election of its new national president, is continuing apace. Several State unit presidents, including in Uttar Pradesh, are yet to be elected which, according to the BJP’s organisational set-up, needs to completed before a new national president is appointed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nagpur and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters, among other events, on March 30, is expected to go a long way in finalising the name of the next BJP president. The RSS and the BJP have been see-sawing through discussions on who the next national president of the party should be. This will be the first visit by Mr. Modi to the RSS’s headquarters since he was elected Prime Minister in 2014.
Sources also claimed that a meeting of the BJP’s national council could be scheduled between April 18-20 in Bengaluru in order to fully endorse the election of the next BJP president.
