Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Friday (March 28, 2025) met with a delegation of employees from ICICI Bank who alleged that they had been “unfairly” dismissed by the management of the private bank.

Employees, who met Mr. Gandhi at his office in the Parliament House complex, claimed that some of them were “abruptly terminated” while on medical leave, or after they had raised concerns about management practices, the Congress said in a post on X.

Such practices are not isolated to ICICI Bank but reflect a broader trend across private sector banks, driven by mounting pressure to maximise profits, the employees’ delegation said. There was no immediate reaction from the bank.

On Thursday (March 27, 2025), Mr. Gandhi met a delegation of employees from IDBI Bank who expressed concern over the privatisation of the bank.

“Citing assurances given by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in 2003, they [the delegation] said the decision to go ahead with privatisation by ignoring them [assurances] is against the country, its people and the employees,” Mr. Gandhi had said in a post on his Whatsapp channel.
