A day after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad passed a resolution to usher in organisational reforms, the Congress on Thursday (April 10, 2025) appointed a new head for its other backward classes (OBC) wing.

Dr. Anil Jaihind (Yadav) has been appointed chairman of the OBC wing of AICC, replacing Capt. Ajay Yadav (Retd.), a press statement from general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal said.

Mr. Jaihind, a prominent social activist, had recently joined the Congress party, while Capt. Yadav is a party veteran from Haryana. However, since the Congress lost Haryana Assembly polls last October, Capt. Yadav has openly criticised the State leadership, including former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

At the Ahmedabad AICC session, the party reiterated its commitment towards social justice.

In a related development, the party has relieved Alok Sharma of his duties as the AICC secretary for Punjab. The party didn’t assign any reason but stated that Mr. Sharma would continue to be a media panellist.
