The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will carry out a nationwide campaign from April 20 to May 5 to spread awareness about the benefits of the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, particularly among the Muslims.

The “Waqf Sudhar Janjagaran Abhyan (Waqf Reform and Public Awareness Campaign)” will be organised as directed by party chief J.P. Nadda. A team headed by the party’s national general secretary Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, and comprising national secretaries, Anil Antony and Arvind Menon, and Minority Morcha national president Jamal Siddiqui, will coordinate the campaign.

Through a circular, BJP national general secretary and headquarter in-charge Arjun Singh said the passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill brought by the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a healthy and comprehensive discussion in both the Houses of Parliament was historic and there was an atmosphere of happiness in the country.

‘Boost transparency’

He said the Prime Minister saw the move as a consequence of the collective quest for socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive growth. “This will particularly help those who have long remained on the margins, thus being denied both voice and opportunity. This especially protects and will benefit the interest of Muslim women, poor Muslims, and Pasmanda Muslims. The legislation passed by Parliament will boost transparency and also safeguard people’s rights,” said Mr. Singh.

At the State level, town halls will be held at key locations and among those invited will be clergies, doctors, artists, lawyers, academicians, women activists, media personalities, and social media influencers from the Muslim and other communities, apart from town halls for women, with influential women leaders, in State capitals. Meetings will also be organised with the members of Christian community.

“Every MP and MLA should conduct at least one interactive meeting in his constituency,” said the circular, adding that at the district level, interactions involving influential members from the Muslim community and press conferences with presentation would be held. The party’s youth wing will also hold interactive programmes for the young members of society.

At the sub-district level, door-to-door campaign at important locations and outreach programmes for Muslim women will be undertaken. Besides, digital campaign using graphics, testimonials, vox-pop videos will be carried out in every district. While a national workshop on the issue will be held on April 10, State and district level workshops are expected to be organised between April 15-17 and on April 18/19.
