KV teacher suspended for her remarks against Bihar

A Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) teacher posted in Jehanabad has been suspended for her derogatory remarks against Bihar and its people.

In the purported video which has gone viral on social media, Ms. Deepali is heard saying the people of Bihar have no civic sense and India will become a developed country the day Bihar is removed.

Though she has been suspended and transferred to Saran, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP of Samastipur, Shambhavi Choudhary has written a letter to KVS Commissioner seeking action against her saying that such statements are highly inappropriate, unacceptable and unbecoming of an educator who is responsible for imparting knowledge and values to students.

In the video, the teacher from Delhi says, “There are many regions and they could have given me posting anywhere in India. People don’t like Kolkata region but I was ready for that also. In West Bengal one of my friends has got posting in Darjeeling, another friend got posting in Silchar – north east and one more friend got posting in Bengaluru. I really don’t understand why I was given posting in the worst region of India. I will never forget my first posting in Bihar.”

She further says, “They could have given me a posting in Odisha, Goa or a hard station like Ladakh where no one wants to go but they gave me Bihar. I am not kidding about the situation in Bihar. The ground reality here is really bad. People have no civic sense. These people have ruined Railways. India is a developing country because of Bihar. The day we remove Bihar, India will become a developed country.”

She has posted the video at the time of Maha Kumbh and it has gone viral on social media now.

In the viral video, which is still available on social media, she could be heard speaking in English and using filthy language against Bihar and its people. The teacher herself has posted the video on social media.

KVS has already taken action against her by issuing the letter on February 25.

In the suspension letter it is stated, “Deepali a primary teacher (probationer) posted in Jehanabad Kendriya Vidyalaya, tried to hurt the dignity of Biharis by using abusive words in English. This seems to be a very condemnable act. As per the provisions of Rule 10 Sub-rule 1(a) of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Deepali is suspended with immediate effect till further orders by the Acting Deputy Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Regional Office, Kankarbagh, Patna.”

The suspension letter further says, “During the suspension, her headquarters has been made Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mashrakh, Saran. It has also been instructed that Primary Teacher (Probationer) Deepali will not leave the headquarters without the permission of the Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mashrakh, Saran.”

While speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Choudhary said, “Suspension is not enough for her, she should be terminated. She has the audacity to abuse Bihar. How can she become a teacher if she does not know Bihar. As a responsible institution, KVS must uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure that no teacher indulges in such discriminatory or offensive behaviour. That’s the reason I have written letter to KVS Commission on Wednesday (February 26).”

She asserted that thorough investigation should be carried out and strict disciplinary action should be taken against Ms. Deepali.

“It is essential to reinforce guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future so that all educators uphold the principle of respect and inclusivity,” Ms. Choudhary said.
