The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) is all set to launch an innovative course to improve the doctor-patient relationship following rise in incidents of conflict across India in healthcare institutes.

Speaking about the latest initiative, NIHFW director Dheeraj Shah said that the course has been brought in following a demand by healthcare professionals. “As part of the course healthcare employees will be taught about the correct way to communicate with those in distress, female patients etc. The course will also include conflict management. The program is set to roll out in the coming months, following the program advisory committee’s approval,’’ he said.

NIHFW offers a variety of educational and training programs across public health sectors, underlining its role in fostering skilled health professionals through comprehensive educational pathways.

The institute is also looking into conducting training programmes for vaccine and cold-chain management for the updated solar cold-chain equipment that is being used by India in regions where they is electricity supply for less than eight-hours a day.

Renu Sehrawat, course coordinator, NIHFW explained that the Institute’s National Cold Chain & Vaccine Management Resource Centre, which is the technical unit that supports the immunisation division of Health Ministry, is looking at introducing solar cold-chain equipment repair and maintenance training for our cold-chain technicians.

“India has its own core team of cold-chain technicians who are deployed at district level. They are the backbone of our immunisation programme and training them in fire-fighting is an important element to ensure that the vaccination process goes on well in the country,’’ she said.
